Our Homeschooling Day
This is a sample of our homeschooling day, although sometimes things don’t go exactly to plan. I used to really stress out when things didn’t exactly follow our plans, but I have learned that I need to leave time for God to work in and through our lives, and this isn’t possible if we I am too inflexible.
The formatting for this timetable I must attribute to Linda, although we have worked it out to suit our curriculum plan and our lives, so any similarities have long since disappeared. My point is that we can learn so much from fellow homeschoolers, if we only take the time to “stop and smell the roses” along the way. I find it useful to have a timetable, as we tend to work better when we have planning and structure in our school life, and everybody knows what is expected of them.
In the Jewish home, the teaching of the law of the Lord was primarily the task of the parents, and the atmosphere of the home was supposed to be wholesome, the conversation – about God and His laws; and the teaching, diligent.
And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children,
and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house,
and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down,
and when thou risest up.
And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand,
and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes.
And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house,
and on thy gates. Deuteronomy 6: 7-9
In the February edition of the newsletter from Australian Christian College there is a new graphic design course, so my son is very eager to find out more about this course and the credits that it attracts for his year 12 certificate. We might just find ourselves changing what he is studying, but I think that this would be a change for the better. He loves graphic design, and to be able to study something that he is passionate about and gain recognition for it would be a real God-send.

I am a daughter of the King of Kings, seeking to live a godly life and mirror the love of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

Yep, I like to work on a flexible shcedule. I find if I have a plan and can work through it during the day, I feel I have achieved something in the end. Mind you, I am not a naturally super organized body so I often need the plan to get my head togehter!!
I like to be flexible too because life happens. It is good to able to drop things at short notice, especially to help out or unexpected visitors. We can usually pick it up the next day.
The course for your son sounds good. It is obviously his area of interest.
Good Morning Jillian…thanks for sharing, I too have come to place of just resting in God when all doesn’t go according to schedule.
How exciting for you son!!! Do you use a curriculum from the Australian Christian College?
I would love to hear more about why you chose that curriculum and how youe children are finding it.
Cheers..xxx
Hi Ruby,
I find that by having everything organised our children work well and know what to do and when, but I need to remember to leave time for God’s plans. In the beginning of our homeschooling journey, I found it extremely difficult to be flexible.
My son loves web design and graphic design, and the two work very well together. ;D
Have a great weekend,
Blessings,
Jillian
Hi Sarah,
I found it extremely difficult to let God take hold of the reins, but eventually it happened. Mind you, we’ve been homeschooling for nearly eight years, now, and it has taken me about seven of those years to let go and let God.
Yes, we use the ACE PACE’s, and our children are thriving using them. The Christian content is excellent, and I love the way that they are put together with God central to everything. We didn’t make this decision lightly, but chose this curriculum so that our children could achieve their year 12 certificate. There are many good curricula on the market, but the world demands certificates for year 12, and there is a verse in the Bible that says by the mouths of two or three witnesses may something be established.
My daughter is finding the PACE’s excellent and just does her work without any problems, and my son recently gave thanks for a Christian curriculum in his Bible PACE.
Have a great weekend,
Blessings,
Jillian
Thanks so much for dropping by my blog! Sorry it has taken me so long to return the favour “O) I just haven’t had the opportunity I need to do so since starting back with schooling! And that is the way it is meant to be “O)
But thank you again! And for sharing your schedule! I think it is nice to be able to see what other families are doing..
Blessings in Christ
I don’t think I’d be ready to do that. But looking at this blog post here makes me feel like I could.
Hi, Super post, Need to mark it on Digg

Hi Pauline,
You’re very welcome!
It is sometimes very helpful to be able to see what others are doing in their homeschooling journey, especially if keeping things in order is very difficult, as it was for me in the beginning.
Have a wonderful and blessed week,
Jillian
Thank you.
Kind regards,
Jillian
Homeschooling is great!
Kind regards,
Jillian
