A Final Rose for Bathsheba

I shall miss Bathsheba, my pet goat, and her mischievous ways. I shall miss feeding her the most beautiful roses, her nuzzling when I entered the goat yard, her jumping up against the fence when she heard someone in the house yard, just in case they were going to feed her roses, and I shall miss her love. I know, you’ll say, “How can a goat love, but she gave more love than most people ever know how to give, in a lifetime.”

It’s just not fair that she had to die, and although I know that the Lord gives and He also takes away, it doesn’t make it any easier to understand why she died of enterotoxaemia (pulpy kidney). Our goats are all vaccinated against this awful disease, but still she died from it, and I shall miss her immensely. She was our first goat, she produced divine babies, and we still have her daughter, Susannah here. I’m not sure that I want to call her a pet though, after the last week.

What is enterotoxaemia?

The LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD. Job 1:21

Have you lost 2 goats this week? How awful! That is rough. I do hope that's the end of it & you can go back to loving & being loved by your goats with an easy heart.

    Hi Ganeida,
Yes, we have lost two goats this week, and they were both pets. We usually had six to eight goats in the yard closest to the house, but we only had three in there, due to selling one and weaning the kids.

I'm thinking that the goats had too much green feed, with there only being two in there.

The last week has been pretty rough here, and unfortunately the men think that its just part of living in the country, but my daughter and I have been really devastated.

We are down to 700 mls of milk at the moment, too, as we only have one milking goat left. It will be at least five months before we have any more kids, so that we can begin milking any others.

I don't know why this has happened, but I do know that God is in control, and He knows why.

I hope and pray that your week has been going better than ours.
    Love,
    Jillian
