Tuesday Treasures

The-Blessings-of-God

Today’s Tuesday Treasure is a gift that was given to us when we moved into our third home by my husband’s second cousin, Jim and his wife, Peggy. It sits on our kitchen mantlepiece, and is a constant reminder that God’s blessings do crown our house. It has been securely packaged during every move since then, and it has survived four moves, even the last move when the furniture removalists all but destroyed lots of our furnishings and fittings – clothes drier, table and five of the six chairs, dressing table, strereo player and nebuliser. Take my advice – if you’re moving house, pay the extra for the insurance, for if you don’t, you will be severely out of pocket.

Today’s “treasure” is not an expensive one, but it has much sentimental value for us, and is a constant reminder of God’s blessings over our home, that our work is blessed and that our house is prospered by the Lord.

Tuesday Treasures ~ Peter Rabbit Cup

Peter-Rabbit
Bottom-of-Peter-Rabbit-Cup

This “Peter Rabbit” cup was given to my husband by his mum, when he was born (way back in the Stone Age!). It is unusual because it was made in Japan, and after WWII there were very few imports from Japan for a very long time.

It has survived our shed being blown away during a fierce wind storm and many house moves, the last of which, the furniture removal company weren’t very careful, and we sustained many damaged items. My son wants to inherit this when my husband dies – hopefully, not for a long time, yet!

I think that it’s rather cute, and it has many glaze cracks in it these days, but I think that just adds to the character and charm of it. What do you think?

Goat Salt and Pepper Shakers

Tuesday Treasures

Goat-Front

Goat

This goat set of salt and pepper shakers used to be my nanna’s, and when we moved into our first home, they were given to us. Although we don’t use table salt anymore, as it contains aluminium, and my husband had a severe reaction to it – tinnitus and hammer toes – but since we stopped the table salt, his tinnitus and hammer toes have both disappeared, it is still a rather interesting ornament.

However, I digress – I remember this goat salt and pepper shaker sitting on the table whenever we were gathered together, and times with my nanna were such special times. She was the sort of person who could make you feel special just by being there. Her way of interacting with people was one that I shall always remember, and her love and kindness toward me makes me smile each time I think of her.

Was it predestined or just coincidence that we have a farm with 21 goats? I don’t know, but just as I have fond memories of my nanna, I enjoy each and every one of our goats, although the billy goats are a bit smelly at the moment, as it is rutting season – makes it interesting when the wind is blowing the wrong way. Oh well, at least this billy goat doesn’t smell. What do you think of him – is he cute, or what?

English Koala???

Tuesday Treasures

A dear friend of mine posted about an old jug of hers in Tuesday Treasures, that is hosted by Hope Echoes. Not unlike Amanda, I probably shall not be able to participate in this Meme every week, as we don’t have a huge amount of collectibles, but let’s just see what we do have.

English Koala
Number of Koala

My mother-in-law gave us this koala when we eventually settled down, as we travelled around in a caravan for a couple of years, travelling up and down the east coast of Australia, and it definitely wouldn’t have been practical to cart it around with us.

My husband remembers it sitting above the fireplace in the dining room, on the farm, when he was four years old. This koala, as you can see by the bottom, was made in England and it has a number – 1391. We also can’t find any information about it, and don’t know who it was made by – perhaps one of you lovely people would be able to identify it???
