Mary had a Little Lamb

I have never read “Mary had a Little Lamb” written like this before – have you?

The-Lamb-of-God

Mary had a little lamb,
His fleece was white as snow,
And everywhere that Mary went,
The Lamb was sure to go.
He followed her to school each day,
‘Twasn’t even in the rule.
He made the children laugh and play,
To see a Lamb at school.
And then the rules all changed one day,
Illegal it became,
To bring the Lamb of God to school,
Or even speak His name.
Everyday got worse and worse,
And days turned into years.
Instead of hearing children laugh,
We heard gunshots and tears.
What must we do to stop the crime,
That’s in our schools today?
Let’s let the Lamb come back to school,
And teach our kids to pray.

Poetry

For English today, my son was asked to write a piece of poetry on compassion, wisdom, character or helping others. My son absolutely detests writing poetry, but the poem that he wrote today is beautiful – short, sharp and shiny, but beautiful.

Helping Others

Helping others when in need,
Is like planting a little seed,
Watch it sprout,
And when it’s out,
Another soul to Christ you’ll lead.

Introducing…

…our school room mascot, Moonlight, who is my daughter’s cat, and he is ever so happy to be a part of our school room. He sleeps on the chair each day, but when we aren’t at school he stays outside. Moonlight is a great ratter, mouser and loves to catch rabbits and snakes, and praise God, he hasn’t been bitten, yet.

School mascot

…Minca, alias Stinky Minky, my son’s cat also has a play to part in our home – she collects dust and sleeps on my son’s bed all day. She has her own blanket on the bed and has such a sweet personality. She loves her food, which is why she is so tubby, but even when we banished her to the great outdoors, she managed to find her own.

Minca

…while my cat, Jeremiah is so terrified of the ceiling fans that he will be anywhere that there isn’t a ceiling fan going. He is a neuter ginger male, and he weighs in at a hefty 10 kilograms although he isn’t fat – just big. Guess where he is in this photo – did you guess – yep, he’s under the bed. That way the ceiling fan can’t swallow him up, although you could be forgiven for thinking that he’s going to eat the ceiling fan by this photo.

Jeremiah

Does anyone else have a school room mascot? What do your cats do to earn their living? Are they like ours, or do they have other uses?

New Month – New Hymn and Scripture Reading

The hymn that we are singing for November is All Things Bright and Beautiful, and this ties in well with our Scripture reading for this month, which is Genesis 1:24-31 .

All Things Bright and Beautiful

Refrain

All things bright and beautiful,
All creatures great and small,
All things wise and wonderful:
The Lord God made them all.

Each little flower that opens,
Each little bird that sings,
He made their glowing colors,
He made their tiny wings.

Refrain

The rich man in his castle,
The poor man at his gate,
He made them, high or lowly,
And ordered their estate.

Refrain

The purple headed mountains,
The river running by,
The sunset and the morning
That brightens up the sky.

Refrain

The cold wind in the winter,
The pleasant summer sun,
The ripe fruits in the garden,
He made them every one.

Refrain

The tall trees in the greenwood,
The meadows where we play,
The rushes by the water,
To gather every day.

Refrain

He gave us eyes to see them,
And lips that we might tell
How great is God Almighty,
Who has made all things well.

Refrain

The words of this beautiful hymn were written by Cecil F. Alexander, and it is thought that he wrote them at at Markree Castle, near Sligo, Ireland. The music is Royal Oak, 17th Century English melody, and this delightful rendition was arranged by Martin F. Shaw in 1915.

NetHymnal

…is a wonderful resource that we use each month for our hymns that tie in with our Scripture reading, and it has a Scripture Allusion page that makes it really easy to find a hymn to use in our praise and worship time.

Homeschooling – Think Outside the Box

My son and I had a discussion last night about designing logos, and I thought about it, and this is what I came up with. The concept was mine, but my son had to execute the designing of the logo, and it took him about an hour. I think that I might adopt it as my logo.

Homeschooling - Think Outside the Box

I need much more practice with Photoshop before I can design something like this, but I’m going to keep trying – after all, Michelangelo didn’t become as great as he was without practice, either.
