My Prayer – More of Jesus, Less of Me

Oh, Heavenly Father, help me to live my life and grow in grace so that there is more of you and less of me.

This is my biggest challenge in life, for your love and grace to permeate my life so completely that when people see me, they don’t see me at all, but the wonderful love of our Lord and Savious, Jesus Christ perfected in me.

The Jews couldn’t look upon the face of Moses, for the glory of the Lord shone too brightly, so he was forced to cover his face with a veil, but we, as Christians can see the glorious promises and privileges of the gospel of Christ with our faces uncovered. We can appreciate them by faith, and are changed from glory to glory, growing in grace and love.

Help me to search the Scriptures daily, seeking your face and growing in your wisdom and grace.

But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

Be Careful What You Pray For…

…as the very thing that you pray for might well be what God gives you.

My husband was on the sawbench, sawing firewood, and after about ten tonnes of wood, decided that he would like a break. He said, “Lord, I could sure do with a holiday – even a break would be good.”

Three hours later, he received his break – a broken finger – not exactly the sort of break that he wanted. However, he is getting a ‘break‘ from sawing firewood.

Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

My Quiet Time

Each morning, before my day begins, I spend time with the Lord, in quiet reflection and contemplation, but before reading my Bible or praying, I pray the following prayer:~

Lord, open my heart, cleanse my heart, fill my heart,

make my mind alert, my heart responsive and my soul active

and

please give me a verse for this morning.

I find this prayer helps me to focus my thoughts on God, to invite Him into my whole being and allow Him to take charge of my quiet time with Him.

Next, I read a chapter of my Bible (regardless of the size). Some mornings, my quiet time takes me a half an hour, and some it takes quite a bit longer, but that is my commitment. I write down the verse that the Lord brings to me, and take it with me through the day. I have a special book that I write down the Bible verses in, and it’s like a log of all the verses that God has given me.

Afterwards, I pray using the following ACTS prayer model:~

Adoration:Yours, O LORD, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is yours; yours is the kingdom, O LORD, and I do exalt you as head above all.

Confession: Lord, forgive me for…

Thanksgiving: Father God, I do thank you that You’re constantly here for us and with us, and thank you for your constant provision over us.

Supplication – (intercessory prayer for others): Heavenly Father, I do ask that you watch over…

Just as an example, this is the prayer of supplication that I prayed today:~
I pray for our family and friends first, Germany’s homeschoolers, our troops fighting overseas, our country’s leaders, our hospitals, for Israel, for an end to the persecution of Christians worldwide, but in particular in Uzbekistan, Myanmar, Nigeria, North Korea and China. I pray that God will put an end to the removal of prayer bands in China, and that He will help many more people in China to come to know and love Him, and that there will be a Bible waiting and readily accessible for each one of them. I also pray that He will guide the North Korean refugees safely into a new country that they can call home.

At the end of my prayer, I pray that God will walk with me through the day, guiding my steps, my thoughts and my intentions.

I also pray that future generations of our family will walk with God and in His ways; that our children’s employment prospects will be guided by God, and that He will bless their walk with Him; and that their future spouses will be good, kind Christian people who’ll also walk in His ways.

Do I have it all togetherdefinitely not (only God does), but by asking God to guide my day helps me to keep things in perspective? I also find that having my quiet time with the Lord first thing in the morning helps to avoid my day going pear-shaped, which it does very quickly without that special time with Him. It also helps me to focus on God, rather than the everyday issues that happen around us.

Am I human, and do I make mistakes? Yes, but being a Christian means that I’m forgiven for my sins if I acknowledge them, say sorry to God and turn from my sin. The Lord Jesus Christ’s death on the cross restored fellowship between God and us without the need for a blood sacrifice, as He was the blood sacrifice, dying once for all.

Pray for Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland

Victoria has been in the grip of a ferocious bushfire which has decimated vast areas, and has robbed people of their homes, possessions, loved ones and in some cases their employment.

173 people have so far lost their lives in the wake of the bushfires in Victoria, but the toll is still expected to rise. Anybody wishing to help should register to become a blood donor, as the burns victims will need many blood donations in the ensuing months.

I received an email from the HEA this afternoon, stating that there are homeschoolers who have been affected by the bushfires, and that the HEA knows of families in the Kinglake, Steele’s Creek, Kilmore, Broadford and Beechworth areas who may have lost their homes or seen their neighbours’ homes burn down.

If you would like to donate directly to these families, please contact the HEA for direct deposit details.

Queensland has its own problems with devastating floods affecting vast areas of North Queensland.

If you would like to donate to the affected Victorian bushfire victims or to the flood victims in Queensland, you can do so by:

  • Calling 13 Salvos (137258) or by going online to www.salvos.org.au

  • Phone 1800 811 700

  • Any NAB, ANZ, Westpac or Commonwealth Bank branch

  • Any Bunnings store

  • By direct deposit to the Victorian Bushfire Relief Fund – BSB 082-001, Account number 860-046-797

Please keep praying for these people, who through no fault of their own have found themselves in dire circumstances. Please dig deep so that their lives and homes can be rebuilt. Please also pray that the people who lit these fires will be brought to justice.

Thoughts on the Lord’s Prayer

A friend of ours is visiting with us at the moment, and she shared this poem with me. It spoke to me of the need to be right in our prayer life, first and foremost, and I thought it was really beautiful. I’d like to share it with you.

A Few Thoughts on the Lord’s Prayer

I cannot pray our, if my faith has no room for others and their need.

I cannot pray who art in heaven, if all of my interests and pursuits are in earthly things.

I cannot pray hallowed be thy name, if I am not striving, with God’s help, to be holy.

I cannot pray thy kingdom come, if I am unable to accept God’s rule in my life.

I cannot pray thy will be done, if I am unwilling or resentful of having it in my life.

I cannot pray, on earth as it is in Heaven, unless I am truly ready to give myself to God’s service here and now.

I cannot pray, give us this day our daily bread, without expending honest effort for it, or if I withhold from my neighbour, the bread that I receive.

I cannot pray forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, if I continue to harbour a grudge against anyone.

I cannot pray lead us not into temptation, if I deliberately choose to remain in a situation where I am likely to be tempted.

I cannot pray deliver us from evil, if I am not prepared to fight evil with my life and my prayers.

I cannot pray Thine is the kingdom, if I am unwilling to obey the King.

I cannot pray Thine is the power and the glory, if I am seeking power for myself and my own glory first.

I cannot pray forever and ever, if I am too anxious about each day’s affairs.

I cannot pray Amen, unless I honestly say, “Cost what it may, this is my prayer.”
