Ye Ol’ Farmhouse

Dry Stone Wall
Old Farmhouse

While my husband was chatting to one of our local farmers, the farmer said that he had another farm near us, and there was LOTS of dry firewood to cut. My husband and son went out to the old farm, and these were the first photos that my son took. In the first photo, you can see the dry stone wall – around here there are many of these old dry stone walls, and they have such character. In the next photo, this is ye ol’ farmhouse, which I find rather sad really, as the pigeons have overrun the house.

Chimney
Tack Room

In these photos you can see the old chimney and probably the tack room – aren’t they gorgeous? If you look carefully at the photo on the right, you can even see the old door.

Stables
Stable Window

These are the old stables and the stable window, which I thought was ever so rustic.

Husband and Chainsaw

Mind you, my son also had to load the trailer, but he took fifty-five photos while they were out cutting wood. I can see why, as it was extremely hard choosing which photos to post to my blog. They were only gone for about an hour and a half, and they have a full trailer load of wood – my husband ♥♥♥ his new chainsaw. I feel so blessed to be living in this area with all of the history associated with it. Praise God, for we definitely won’t be going cold this winter!

Church BBQ

HUGE Tree

Today our church had a barbecue so that we could have fellowship one with another and become acquainted with our fellow Brothers and Sisters in Christ. This GIGANTIC tree was in the park where we had lunch, and it was very statuesque. For lunch we could have hamburgers or sausages – with or without salad at no extra cost.

After lunch there were some games to break the ice, such as:

  • Tug-of-War – My daughter’s side won this, although my son said that they cheated – um, they did have a few more contestants.
  • Sack Races – My daughter won her sack race – it was hilarious watching the contestants try and run in a sack, especially the adults.
  • Egg and Spoon Race – The eggs were hard boiled and had the shells on, but this didn’t stop one of the eggs from being splattered all over the GIGANTIC tree in the photograph.

We took salad with us, as we weren’t sure what they would have there, in the way of salads. My husband also made a Boiled Chocolate Cake and a Carrot Cake – needless to say the Chocolate Cake didn’t make it home. It was absolutely scrumptious, and I haven’t found anyone, yet, who can resist my husband’s home made Chocolate Cake. It was wonderful being able to catch up with friends after church in an idyllic setting such as this. Praise God for a wonderful day!

Unexpected Trip to Adelaide

Yesterday we had an unexpected journey to Adelaide so that I could have an ultrasound scan to map the veins in my legs.

We left home at 7:30 am, arriving in Adeliade at 10:30 am because we didn’t know where the radiology centre was, and according to Google maps, it was in the middle of the traffic island.

We had a good trip down, and our children completed all of their school work in the car while we were travelling and when I was having my scan. They did have incentive, though, as I had said that if they had finished their school work, we would visit some fellow homeschoolers on the way home.

After leaving the radiology centre, we went to Spotlight, and we purchased a new pedestal mat for our friend, Gwenda, as we noticed while visiting her that hers was almost threadbare. We also bought some new pillows for the guest bedroom.

Then we travelled out of Adelaide to see our friends who were delighted and surprised to have us visit. Their eldest son made us feel most welcome by making us a cuppa, and my husband said that he makes a delicious cup of coffee.

A wonderful afternoon was had by all – we had lunch and the adults talked while the children played hide and seek and chasey.

We arrived home at about 7:00, totally exhausted but happy that we had experienced such wonderful fellowship and (dare I say that dreaded “S” word) socialisation.

Journey to Tumby Bay

Well, we’re back after a few days travelling to Tumby Bay and return. It was a wonderful trip – rather uneventful, really, but praise God for granted travelling mercies!

We departed on Friday morning, and our lunch stop was at Barnacle Bill’s at Port Augusta, where we had fish, chips and chocolate milk, and this was delicious! After this, we continued on our journey, arriving in Tumby Bay just after 5:00 p.m. My son took most of the photos out of the car window while we were travelling, and they turned out pretty well.

Whyalla – about halfway there

Our friend was waiting for us, with a ready-cooked roast chicken dinner and vegetables, followed by Apricot Crumble, and it was absolutely delicious. It was so good to be anywhere but in the car, and everyone slept really well that night.

The next day we spent visiting friends and just generally vegging out – it seemed that the trip really did tire us all out. What really surprised us was the quality of the crops from Port Neill to Tumby Bay – the farmers should be ecstatic over that way.

Saturday was spent listening to the choir preparing for Sunday’s church service, and getting used to new songs. We also took our set-top box remote back to a friend, and she replaced it, as we thought that it was faulty, but it now appears that the box is faulty – *sigh*.

Unusual Style of Home in Tumby Bay

Sunday was church at the Tumby Bay Assembly of God, and it was a great service, with Kayleen giving a wonderful communion message on “Guarding Your Mouth”, and Ps. Malcolm giving a sermon on “What does the Gospel bring?” Sunday afternoon saw us visiting with “old” friends, and then prepared for an early night, knowing that we had about 460 kilometres to travel home the next day.

On Monday we arrived home at about 4:00 p.m, extremely exhausted, but happy that we had experienced a safe and uneventful journey home, despite the huge flow of traffic. Praise God for His wonderful provision over us, and for granted travelling mercies!
